My hiking was derailed

        Hi all.

figured I would add my story. I was at rivers casino when I went outside and saw the sticker on a light post. I’m in. I walked north of casino for a few miles through the housing complex on the water. Saw another sticker on a bench. Went south to the port area. Thought I could walk through there to navy yard got about 3/4 of the way before security turned me around. Next walk was the navy yard. I did a sketchy stupid thing as I crossed the bridge out of the navy yard on the west side.  There are some abandoned buildings and an old road. I snuck in there. Dumb not a good idea.

did a few short hikes north near street road.

sadly I had to have heart surgery and am out for a bit. Will be back hopefully soon.

        this is so much fun.

Hi William and thanks so much for sharing this! Hooray for your walk adventures, and many blessings for swift & complete recovery from surgery…

If you can join us for our year-end event on Dec 13 we’d love to see you there and hear more about your experiences!

The SE corner of the navy yard is a tricky one with a lot of restricted land… I’ve found my way through those parking lots a few times but most often had to detour around. Windy Point is a strange phenomenon worth checking out if you can make it down there (security sometimes have turned me away beforehand, sometimes after – but from what I can tell it’s still public road / the right side of the fence) – and even though it’s a long detour to go back round pattison if you don’t make it through there, I think it’s worth it to catch a closer glimpse at those big storage domes and all of the industrial infrastructure.

And yes, I know those buildings on the west side of the navy yard; have only been in there once – it’s one of those things where it’s kind of easier to wander into them when you’re going clockwise rather than counter-clockwise, and the fencing & signage situation ’round there has shifted over time too.

good health to you, and many best wishes for all your next walks!

          -jj

PS we’ll also do a shorter new year’s day walk in Cobbs Creek w/ our pals from WeWalkPHL on Jan 1 in case you’d like to join us for that!
