Airport

Yesterday walked into John Heinz – it was getting a little later in the day and darker, and I was getting pretty tired, so I decided to forgo trying to cross the tracks and walk down Bartram Ave into the airport. But it looked like there were a few ways to do it and keep it relatively pedestrian safe. I also did notice some CSX engines going down the track a bit later, on my walk out, so they are active tracks! Does anyone have a favorite way in to the airport from John Heinz? Looks like go over onto the I-95 trail and walk down until the cement barrier lowers and you can get on to Bartram, or maybe Tinicum?

Planning on heading down to the airport to do the platt bridge later this week, which looks a little more straightforward.

          Hello out there –

Does anyone know if the triple tracks in the NE corner of John Heinz are crossable onto 291?  I have been studying maps but am confounded as to how to make an exit from John Heinz onto Bartram Ave without crossing tracks or bushwhacking, neither of which are my preferred mode of walking, but I have done both before.  There seems to be no connect down there.  Any help would be appreciated!  To Daniel Jenks:  What is the I-95 trail you mentioned?  Thanks.

Hi Nancy – this is definitely a tricky one that could use some improvement.

The maps in this survey by the East Coast Greenway will give you some ideas of what might be possible and how future trails might be developed:

            https://circuittrails.org/blog/we-need-your-input-on-the-tinicum-ecg-trail-feasibility-study/

The city is also working on a new trail from the Heinz refuge to the Eastwick regional rail station, but that will be a bit.

Remember our guidelines – you can find your way around obstacles of any size with enough patience & perseverance.

            Be safe!

(And please note: these forums will be closed/locked through the end of the year as we prep for website migration and the walk gets its own site. Thank you for your patience with that!)

            Happy walking,
