It’s been over two weeks since an amazing 617 backers came together, raising $26,270 to help fund the continuation of How Philly Moves through a successful Kickstarter campaign. This tremendous response is a huge step on the way to my dream of creating positive imagery with community support. The next round of photo sessions are tentatively scheduled for September. Make sure to join the mailing list on the How Philly Moves site if you’d like to hear details as they come together.

My photographic career started in parallel with the first half of the digital photography revolution: it became so much easier to invest in work and share it directly with the community. I’ve long wanted to create my work in a community-supported manner, and only now has it become easier for audiences to support the projects and artists they value. If you haven’t yet seen my interview about community-supported photography on Shareable.net, this is what it’s all about. Tools like Kickstarter and Fractured Atlas fiscal sponsorship are the second half of the digital photography revolution, allowing this sharing to work both ways.

I’m amazed and so grateful for the overwhelming support from the generous backers who chipped in through Kickstarter, as well as the wonderful sustainers who make small monthly contributions to support my non-commercial work. These are exciting times for photography, and I’m thrilled to have you all along for the ride…
