This is some of what happens behind the scenes:

Images are downloaded through Photo Mechanic, which applies basic captions and other metadata. The ingest process immediately makes a duplicate download on a backup drive.

A two tiered editing process through Photo Mechanic first deletes the junk, and then singles out the selects. Refined captions and metadata are added, and the files are renamed.

Raw files to be archived on the workstation are atuomatically backed up to a secondary drive every night, or after a download. They are then backed up onto Miglia HS-R RAID enclosures (for the primary, rapid access archive), then onto a pair of DVDS (for secondary backups in a different storage medium) and eventually onto tape backups for off site backups in case of massive catastrophic disaster.)

As needed, Raw files are optimized in Nikon Capture and converted to TIFFS and JPEGS for clients. Web galleries are generated via Photoshop, and all recent working files are saved for immediate access if needed.
